Golden oak with stainless steel wires & cedar screening, North London

Super-strong, long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing, Ipe is a tropical hardwood that can enhance any outdoor space.

If you want to install decking that lasts the test of time, you can’t go wrong with Ipe wood, which is one of the popular materials we work with at Kingfisher Decking.

The biggest benefit of Ipe wood (pronounced i-pee) is its strength, which has led to it being called ‘ironwood’. This exotic hardwood is naturally resistant to rot and decay and is believed to be eight times hard than the Californian Redwood, which makes it perfect for decking.

It has been used in boat building for decades so will remain waterproof even in the worst British weather.

Although Ipe can be more expensive than other timbers, it’s so tough that it’s an excellent long-term investment for your outside space. At the very least, it should provide at least 100 years of use.

Ipe is also highly beautiful with a rich, reddish colour. Often referred to as ‘Brazilian Walnut’, it has a stunning grain swirl and is therefore highly sought-after. Whether you’re in Staines-upon-Thames, Berkshire or nearby London, Kingfisher can install this type of decking in a wide range of locations in the South East.
